Covers the basics of cognition including the definition and gives examples of the elements of cognition and perception. A cognitive model is presented and related to HCI and the elements of cognition are presented.

There is a tremendous amount of research and literature on cognitive models – see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_model . We are going to use the simple cognitive model presented in the lecture for modeling user interaction with systems.
We will cover perception issues in more detail so we can understand how the user perceives the elements of the user interface.
