Assignment 7A – Generating Reports
Objectives
Create a database report (using Report Builder 3 ) – you may use Crystal Reports or another reporting tool ( the use of Visual Studio tools and/or Crystal Reports designer is not covered in this course).
In the database world, you will be asked to create reports. There are many ways to create reports, but you should have a basic understanding of the use of database reporting tools and how to organize the data and use these tools. Nearly all tools for database reporting operate in a similar fashion.
Assignment
For this assignment, you are going to create a report using Report Builder. Use the current version available from Microsoft this tool is like most report builders (like Crystal Reports) – but it is free and it works well with SQL Server so we will use it.
PLEASE NOTE YOU ARE DOING 2 REPORTS
Part 1 –
Part 1 will allow you to practice with Report Builder and is worth 50% of the assignment. For part 1 use the data provided at the lecture site – Getting Started with Report Builder 3 and create a simple report of Fiscal Year in the LEFT column, Continent in the TOP row, and the sum of all financial aid in the report cells. This should be straightforward as what you are doing will follow the lecture on Report Builder.
You will turn in a simple screen capture of your formatted report.
Part 2 –
This report will be more challenging. This report will be a menu – the menu should have each Menu Group and under each menu group the Menu Items with Descriptions
Chili’s To Go MenuAppetizersTriple Dipper™Combine your 3 favorite appetizers! California Grilled Chicken FlatbreadTopped with grilled chicken, applewood smoked bacon, tomato sauce, Monterey Jack, mozzarella, chopped cilantro, house-made pico de gallo, fresh sliced avocado & a drizzle of roasted garlic aioli. Chicken Enchilada SoupTopped with crispy tortilla strips & 3-cheese blend. |
Include a screen capture of your final report. You should have at least 2 menu groups with at least 2 items in each to demonstrate the report.
Note: As with all assignments – these examples are provided for your convenience. You can demonstrate proficiency in using reporting tools using any databases that you are using for your own projects.
