How to proceed through the course: Students will be using professional programming and cloud services in this class. The class has weekly assignments that include the completion of an extensive programming project. Students will also need to have a computer capable of running programming tools, specifically Microsoft SQL Server

Handling of assignments: Assignments are weekly and are submitted via the Falcon Online Assignments tool.

Communication:  Students communication is important in this class and the primary method for communication will be the discussion boards in Falcon Online. A separate discussion board is available for each of the 15 weekly assignments.

Microsoft Office 365, with 1TB of OneDrive storage, is available to enrolled Daytona State College students. Students are provided a college email address that serves as the student’s official source for college communication. In addition to email, Office 365 provides students with shared calendars, the ability to create and edit documents online, team sites, and other collaboration tools.  Whether you work on a PC, Mac, tablet or phone, you will have a consistent experience across all of your devices. The service includes online versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, and OneNote Class Notebook. For more information about Office 365, visit the Student Self-Service Help page at http://daytonastate.edu/help/ and click on Office 365 Find Out More.

Interaction: There are 15 weekly assignments which encompass the requirements for the project.

Attendance and Lateness Policy:

Students will be responsible for completion of extensive weekly assignments. If a student is unable to complete an assignment by the deadline they should indicate this in the assignments submission. Because this is an online class – this constitutes the majority of the attendance requirements, however students are also expected to post regularly to the discussion boards.

Attendance

Students who stop attending this class will be withdrawn from the class and receive a final grade of W1 (Withdrawn).  Attendance includes participating in online or face-to-face environments as required.

Late Work/Make-up Work and Exams:  There is no exam in this class. Late work will be accepted as long as the students are making an effort to complete the assigned work.

Classroom Etiquette:  N/A

Evaluation/Assessment Methods: Students are assessed by grades on weekly assignments which can vary from programming to written documents.

Grading Policy:

Students are graded based on 15 weekly assignments that also encompass assignments that make up a requirement for a student project.  All 15 assignments are evenly weighted.

Grading Scale:

Percent Grade
90% – 100% A
80% – 89% B
70% – 79% C
60% – 69% D
0% – 59% F

An incomplete grade will NOT be given UNLESS the following criteria are met:

  • A request in writing is submitted to the instructor prior to last three weeks of class,
  • All assignments, term paper, and quizzes were completed at that point in time,
  • The student has a grade C or higher at that point in time.

Class Schedule: See weekly assignments

Class Withdrawal Process:  Example: Students can withdraw from this class prior to the date listed in the Academic Calendar. It is not necessary to have approval from the instructor to withdraw from the course, but you should discuss the situation with the instructor prior to any action.
